Vietnam has given the green light to nearly a hundred new wind farms, signalling the nation's continued progress in incorporating renewable energy amid fears of looming power shortages due to its booming industry and population. The new wind farm projects amounting to 7 gigawatts (GW) will bring the total wind power generation capacity to almost 12 GW by 2025.

The country's electricity grid has struggled to keep up, major infrastructure upgrades are now needed to ensure that the grid is ready for the wave of new projects emerging across the country. Siemens Gamesa are to supply 5.0-145 turbines for the 75MW Tan Thuan and 90MW Thai Hoa wind farms in Vietnam.
